Civil Aviation Transports 147 Million Passengers with Daily Passenger Volume Hitting a Record High During the Summer Travel Season
During the 2025 summer travel season (July 1 to August 31), the civil aviation sector across the country transported a cumulative total of 147 million passengers, with a daily average of 2.37 million, marking a year-on-year increase of 3.6%. A total of 1.199 million flights were operated (round trips counted as two flights, same below), with a daily average of 19,300 flights, representing a year-on-year growth of 3.6%. The average passenger load factor reached 84.8%, an increase of 2.2 percentage points compared to the same period of last year. The flight regularity rate stood at 84%, up by 6.7 percentage points year-on-year. Notably, on August 15, passenger traffic reached 2.5653 million, surpassing the historical peak.
In terms of domestic air transport, passenger traffic showed a steady growth. From July 1 to August 31, domestic routes transported a cumulative total of 131 million passengers, with a daily average of 2.11 million, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 2.6%. A total of 906,000 domestic passenger flights were operated, with a daily average of 14,600 flights, up 1.7% compared to the same period of last year.
Regarding international air transport, the market expanded rapidly. The international passenger routes have now expanded to 80 countries, and from January to August, the volume of passenger flights saw a year-on-year increase of over 20%. During the summer travel season, the number of passenger flights further rose. From July 1 to August 31, 123,000 international passenger flights were operated by Chinese and foreign airlines, with a daily average of nearly 2,000 flights. The peak was reached in early August, during which approximately 2,100 international passenger flights were operated daily. The weekly flights during the peak period were about 93% of the level in 2019.
